I used MDF to keep costs down.

This was a low cost way of adding some strength. Corner halving joints were used, top right and bottom left.
Adirondack Chair and matching footstool,
Ths chair was based on a design by 'Norm' and the footstool idea I took from a book but scaled it up to match the scale of the chair.
Note the flat base and fin stabiliser. Shape, mouth, eye etc can be varied to taste. This was made from 20mm stock and has three holes for pencils or pens, bored at 8mm and then 10mm to give a taper. You may want slightly bigger bores for fatter pens but may then need wider stock to avoid any risk of splitting.
